Windsor Park Chamber Music Workshop

July 24-29, 2023 in Edmonton

Kids took a break from their summer vacation in July 2023 to spend a week studying Chamber Music with the High Level Trio in Edmonton.

This fun, intensive, unforgettable Chamber Music Workshop took place July 24-29 2023 - for the second year in a row in a beautiful private home in the Windsor Park neighborhood near University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Workshop Faculty was the High Level Trio:

Ewald Cheung, violin (Violin 1, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra)

Ethan Filner, viola (Asst. Principal Viola, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra)

Julie Hereish, cello (Asst. Principal Cello, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra)

Intermediate to Advanced level strings and piano students aged 12-18 were encouraged to apply. We had room for up to 18 participants forming up to 4 different chamber groups; we accepted 14 each year.

Accepted applicants were assigned to one of four ensembles as their core group for the week. Appropriate repertoire for each ensemble to study during the week was identified, assigned and distributed prior to the workshop for a limited amount of pre-workshop practice. Each ensemble performed at least one work on the final concert. There were multiple opportunities to sight read and study other music with the same or different ensemble combinations within the workshop throughout the week.

Daily schedule ran 9am-4pm Monday through Friday. Friday also included “dinner & a movie” which was done by 9pm. Saturday featured one last 9am-11am dress rehearsal session followed by a lunchtime final concert at Holy Trinity Anglican Church on 100 st at 84th Ave in Edmonton.
